The Finisar Xgig® family provides multi-purpose tools designed to help users meet their high-speed serial design challenges and accelerate development of today’s Storage Area Networks (SAN) and storage subsystems. The latest Analyzer version extends the Finisar Xgig® family with the addition of 6 Gb/s SAS/SATA support. Line rates supported include SAS 1.5, 3.0, and 6.0 Gb/s, and SATA 1.5 and 3.0 Gb/s.
The Xgig® platform employs a chassis-and-blade hardware architecture. The latest Analyzer supports Finisar’s new 6 Gb/s 4-Wide blade with dual mini-SAS 4x receptacles, allowing bidirectional analysis of single and wide-port (up to 4-wide) SAS links. The double-width blade occupies two slots in a 4-slot Xgig® chassis1. The blade supports 2GB RAM for each port, with a total of 16GB for the entire blade (8 ports x 2GB).
Using the Xgig® blade multi-function capability, the user can change (“morph”) the Analyzer function to any other supported Xgig® SAS/SATA function, such as Generator or Jammer, by simply toggling software switches2.
The Xgig® platform’s cascade function allows cascading of multiple Xgig chassis together to form a “synch group”, up to a maximum of 4 chassis. Synch groups can provide anywhere from 2 to 64 time-synchronized SAS/SATA ports. With the Xgig® platform’s port leasing model, the same set of hardware that can support 64 timesynchronized SAS/SATA ports can also be reconfigured to support up to 32 individual simultaneous users.
