隨著資安問題持續受到重視,現代化網路中通常都會部署用In-line串接方式接續網路的監控系統,像IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems) 、頻寬管理器、頻寬加速器、Proxy或是橋接裝置如VPN閘道器或防火牆等,因為這些串接設備加入,而他們本身發生故障的風險,提高了網路斷線的可能性。這對於重要網路服務的提供者,則必須要去思考暨要監控又要如何確保網路服務不中斷?
在網路與In-link串接設備之間,部署Bypass Switch,能夠確保您重要網路通道暢通,而無關於您In-line串接裝置的效能。當 Bypass Switch察覺到In-line設備失去電力、處理網路流量的Latency過久或流量已經被In-line設備阻塞時,則自動(或手動)開啟bypass的旁路機制,此時網路流量不再進入In-link設備,由Bypass Switch直接將流量繞向In-line設備後方的網路,直到偵測出故障的in-line裝置恢復正常,才將流量再自動(或手動)繞回。
如此一來,網管人員就不需要因為網路斷線而疲於奔命,而好的Bypass Switch亦能發出事件告知管理者,讓他第一時間掌握狀況。雖然一些先進的In-line設備的NIC可能也提供bypass功能,但只在斷電時有作用,對於當機或Latency時間過長等問題則無法啟動bypass機制。
Niagara Bypass Switch是單純的以保障網路連通的可靠度而設計,不同於複雜的IPS等串接設備,需要消耗大量硬體效能來深入分析封包內容,有鑑於此Niagara Bypass Switch一旦安裝上了網路,需要離開網路進行維護的可能性是微乎其微。
